Gyms pledge blood

MORE THAN 60 pledges have so far been made to this year's Red Cross Blood Service Gyms Challenge and Yaralla are fighting hard to top the list.

With seven local gyms in the running, instructors are not only busy getting members fit and healthy but encouraging them to step inside the Gladstone Blood Donor Centre, roll up their sleeves and give much-needed blood.

"Our gym (Yaralla) participate in this challenge every year as it's a small sacrifice of our time but could mean a lifetime to the person who receives it," centre manager Julie Withoos said.

"There's an increasing demand for blood but at the moment, only 3% of the population donates so it's never too late to get involved,"

The Gladstone Blood Donor Centre is open Tuesday and Thursday 2-7pm, Wednesday 9.30am-12.30pm and the first Saturday of the month 9.30-11.30am.

During December there will be three extra sessions on Saturday 22, Wednesday 26 and Saturday 29.
