Young gymnasts keen for medals in state titles

KEEGAN McPherson and Eryn Parker have both become Queensland Champions while representing Gladstone in gymnastics.

Competing yesterday in their home venue, McPherson and Parker outclassed competitors from Bundaberg to claim the crowns.

Both were using the event to warm up for Queensland Titles, but winning some silverware along the way was an added bonus.

But they are still looking for ways to improve.

"I went alright, I could have gone better," Level Seven winner Keegan said.

"I need cleaner bars; it didn't feel overly messy though."

The 16-year-old Keegan has previously finished third at states on the floor, and is keen to find a way to medal again.

She believes she has a chance in a number of apparatus.

Level Eight Central Queensland champion Parker has her sights set just as high.

"I want to make the national team," she said. "I am pretty confident.

"I was improving my scores on everything except vault."

Having been there before, both girls know going to Brisbane for the states will be a hard task.

"Brisbane is a lot better but we are going to beat them this year," Parker, 13, said.
