Gutsy Rebels’ fighting debut

NEW GLADSTONE Rugby League addition Rebels dared to dream.

For a fleeting moment when Trent Sorohan slid through for the game's first try, the Rebels' dream had a fleeting reality moment.

However Wallabys' powerhouse Dan Beahan broke through tackles and then delivered his team's first try after a 50-metre dash.

Playing coach Henary Hemana said before the game that he was looking for competitiveness, and it showed when Nameli Ulusolo scored a second try to make it 12-10.

"The main thing is to be competitive," Hemana said.

"We are just a new club to help out the local competition.

"We have had big numbers at training and have only trained for a couple of weeks while Wallabys have trained for longer."

New players such as Jason Batchelor came from Calliope Roosters while Corey Cremer and Ashley Cochrane were recruited from Wallabys.

"The rest of the boys are relatively new and it's our first hit-out," Hemana said.
