Gutless thieves steal breast cancer charity tin
GUTLESS thieves have stolen money destined for the Glen McGrath Foundation during an opportunistic theft at Oakey BP.
In the early hours of Saturday morning two men entered the store to buy cigarettes and while the attendant's back was turned they allegedly stole a donation jar.
Owner Adam Butlin said he was disgusted and appalled by the act.
The incident was captured on CCTV and Mr Butlin has published photos of the men on social media.
"We are so sorry to all our customers who donated, only to have the money end up in pockets of this filth," he wrote.
Mr Butlin said the store raised money for breast cancer research every year during October.
"We all wear pink shirts, put jars out and encourage people to donate
"This year we were going to give to the McGrath Foundation."
He estimated the jar had $300 in it, all donated by local customers.
"Some people donated every time they came in.
"That's the disappointing thing.
"Those people were all doing the right thing and now it's all been taken."
Mr Butlin said the store had received numerous phone calls from the public who were happy to anonymously provide names.
"It seems to be the same names coming through so I'm hoping that police will be able to find them," he said.
The store has second jar which has been moved to behind the counter.
"I don't know whether people are going to want to donate more after what happened," Mr Butlin said.
A police spokesman said they were investigating the matter and at this stage no charges had been laid.
