Gropers hosting swim meet

THE Gladstone Gropers have put everything into making this weekend's swim meet a success.

And why not, it's the only one they host all season.

The club is expecting 60 swimmers to participate in the event, which is held at the John Dahl pool from 12.30pm today.

"We only hold one carnival every year, so it is important that we do it all right," organiser Ken White said.

"We have swimmers coming from the Gold Coast to Rockhampton. I think there are about eight clubs represented. We make up almost half of the nominations."

Many of the events held during the day will be relays.

After this weekend a Gropers team will travel to Hervey Bay for the State Long Course Championships.

"Although this weekend is the only carnival we host we attend many more, including this one in two weeks time," White said. "We travel to many other towns to compete in events like ours."

The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at John Dahl pool from 6.30pm for training.

It also trains Sundays from 7.30am until 9am.

Afterwards members have a cup of tea together.

Swimmers of all levels are invited. They are graded according to ability, as there are six lanes.
