Big Origin night leads to court appearance

PHILLIP John Huxley was saddled with a $500 fine and a conviction after police found a grinder with a strong smell of cannabis in his car.

Huxley pleaded guilty to posses utensils or pipes for use at Gladstone Magistrates Court last week.

His defence lawyer said the incident came from an unusual set of circumstances after the first State of Origin game.

"He had a good night out and fell asleep in the back of the car," his lawyer said.

Magistrate Penelope Hay said Huxley had co-operated with police, had made an early plea and said that although Huxley had a history, it was old.
