Grand day for Caulfield Cup fun

THE Caulfield Cup is coming to Gladstone this Saturday.

To kick off the race season St John the Baptist Primary School and Star of the Sea Primary School will be holding their major fundraiser, Caulfield at the Grand, this Saturday.

This is a very popular event that has been running for 22 years, with 240 tickets to this year’s event already sold.

Committee member Natalie Holzberger said doors open at 11am with a buffet lunch, dessert and nibblies provided.

“There will be lots of fun activities such as a Calcutta, cent sale, raffles and money boards, as well as a fashion parade by Fantasy Rags,” she said.

Ticket holders will dress up like they are going to the Caulfield Cup and the fashion stakes will be high.

Hats and fascinators are a must and Gladstone locals love any excuse to get dressed up.

Local band Remedy will play at 4.30pm when the doors are thrown open to the public for a gold coin donation.

“We would like to thank all of our sponsors, more than 60 businesses sponsored the event with 11 of those being major sponsors, donating money or goods in excess of $1000,” Ms Holzberger said.

The major sponsors include Pattersons, Gladstone Cinemas, Sothertons, Beauty Onyx, Port City Kids, Mick Mannion’s Fabrications, The Observer, Jetset, The Grand Hotel, Beez Neez and Ocean Tyres.

All money raised will benefit both schools and will be used for much needed resources.
