GPC to support review of failed bund wall

GLADSTONE Ports Corporation has said it will co-operate with a Federal Government review of the failure of its Western Basin bund wall, and how that affected harbour health in 2011.

Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt called for an urgent review this week, following revelations about the extent to which leaks from the bund wall may have affected fish health.

Environment groups want a full scale inquiry into the $1.3 billion dredging project.

This review follows the independent review into the Port of Gladstone, which handed down findings in November.

Advice given to Gladstone Ports Corp by engineering consultants BMT WBM in November 2011 said the leaking bund wall was the likeliest explanation for poor water at the time of fish deaths.

A spokeswoman for GPC said it had not withheld any information regarding dredging, with all available reports, information and data collected by GPC made available.

But she did not clarify whether the BMT WBM report was included in this definition.
