Govt aims to recruit 1100 new officers

JOBLESS public servants should apply to become police as the government aims to recruit 1100 new officers, Police Minister Jack Dempsey said.

Mr Dempsey said the government was running a significant and prolonged police recruiting drive to meet an election commitment for new officers over the next four years.

"The Queensland Police Service is certainly a good option for government staff looking for alternative employment," he said.

"Taking into account the 1100 additional required officers and natural attrition in the QPS, the service will be seeking to train up to 850 new officers per year.

"It's a challenging yet rewarding career and I encourage anyone who has at any time considered being a police officer to give it a second thought.

"Premier Campbell Newman has publicly stated Queensland has 20,000 public servants too many.More than 4000 government jobs have already gone since the LNP took office in March.
