Goodna cop fronts court on 38 charges

A GOODNA cop has fronted court after being charged with 38 criminal offences earlier this month.

Constable Daniel Denis Banks, 30, was charged on March 9, 2016 following a Crime and Corruption Commission investigation into allegations he used the Queensland Police Service database to access confidential information.

Mr Banks was subsequently charged with 13 counts of using a restricted computer without consent to cause or intent to cause detriment, damage or gain as well as 12 counts of using a restricted computer without consent.

He is also facing 11 counts of misconduct in relation to public office by making an omission in abuse of authority of office and two counts of misconduct in relation to public office in dealing with information.

The alleged offences occurred between November 1, 2013 and October 30, 2015 while he was based at Goodna police station.

It is not yet known what information the police officer allegedly accessed or how it was subsequently used or for what purpose.

Queensland Police Union lawyer Troy Schmidt sought and adjournment on Monday in Ipswich Magistrates Court and requested the full brief of evidence be provided before the next court date.

Mr Banks was not required to enter a plea and remains free on bail.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess adjourned the matter until May 4.
