A MAN has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenager on a Gold Coast bus last Friday.

The incident, which reportedly lasted 13 minutes, occurred on a Surfside bus mid-afternoon on May 2.

The 18-year-old's alleged attacker then followed her off the bus at Southport, but she was able to hide inside a building.

Police released security footage from the bus on Thursday in the hope the public would be able to help them identify a man on the bus.

Late on Thursday night a 42-year-old man Surfers Paradise man was arrested and charged with sexual assault, making threats and public nuisance.

He is due to face the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday morning, Fairfax reported.
