Global quiet achievers

READING a list of achievements by JPM Global in Gladstone makes you embarrassed you don't know more about them.

For a company that has experienced relative anonymity within the community, JPM Global has been getting plenty of work.

That low profile is something JPM Global Director Mick Jorgensen hopes to change.

The company opened a new office in Gladstone two weeks ago and hopes to make itself better known.

"We've been doing project work here in Gladstone for seven years," Mr Jorgensen said.

"We did have a small office at the (Gladstone) Marina, but we couldn't open the doors and say 'Here we are'.

"We've had people that live here and work in our company for a long time. But for our future prospects of Gladstone, I think we owe it to the region to put a proper presence in."

JPM Global has three primary divisions - project management, marine consultancy and resource consultancy.

"That's what we're good at," Mr Jorgensen explains.

In Gladstone, the company has project-managed several multi-million-dollar jobs for Gladstone Ports Corporation over the past seven years.

While they have an extensive background in resource sector projects on dry land, it is maritime expertise that is causing their portfolio to skyrocket in Gladstone.

"Because Gladstone will grow so much over the next four years in all elements of the marine activities, they need not only project management and risk controls, but also surveys and inspections," Mr Jorgensen said.

Within the harbour, the company has been involved in marine surveying, inspections, reporting, marine incident investigations, dry-docking and maritime project management, including project management within the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project.

JPM Global projects:

  • Project management of several projects for GPC, including a $7.5-million dozer maintenance facility and $5.5-million office buildings and amenities at RG Tanna Coal Terminal.
  • Quality assurance managers for the Wiggins Island Coal Terminal project.
  • Business analysis tendering processes, mineral shipments and more
