Gladstone's budget for 2015-16 released today

UPDATE 11am:

THE Gladstone Regional Council will announce the details of the 2015/16 budget at 11.30am.

The Observer will keep you updated on what is included in this year's budget with rolling covering on its website.

EARLIER:

THE 2015/16 budget for the Gladstone region will be released at a meeting this morning at 11am.

The prediction was for this year's books to come in at a deficit, but chief financial officer Mark Holmes said this year would be a surplus of $3.2million - 1.95% of the total budget.

Acting Mayor Councillor Matt Burnett told The Observer last week that the council had spent several months preparing the upcoming Budget to ensure it met the needs of the community.

"At a time when there are significant funding cutbacks from other tiers of government, it has been imperative that we heavily scrutinised our existing spending and service levels to identify where realistic cost savings could be made," Cr Burnett said.

"I am sure the Budget will responsibly deliver services to the community and place us in a good position for the future, without placing greater pressure on ratepayers."

The meeting is scheduled for 11am today in the boardroom of the Gladstone Civic Centre, 101 Goondoon Street, and residents are welcome.

Council's Operational Plan and Budget 2015/16 will be available for download from Council's website here.
