Gladstone spotlight store will open in October

IT'S been seven years since Spotlight first set its sights on Gladstone, and now they will open a store next month at the Gladstone Central Shopping Centre.

There has been 30 Gladstone people employed at the store, with the company recently completing its recruitment.

They received up to 300 applications for the positions.

Construction has started on converting the ex-supermarket into a Spotlight.

Spotlight deputy chairman Zac Fried said so far they had invested $4.5m into the store, with products time and construction efforts.

"I've been travelling in and out of Gladstone looking for a site for seven years.

"We had a false start on Handley St, where the old Harvey Norman was due to issues with the council and size," he said.

Mr Freed said it would be of a similar layout to other regional stores like Rockhampton and Bundaberg.

While he would not reveal a date, he said the store would definitely open in October.

"We're full steam ahead. We've had a couple of false starts so it's great to see that it's real now … Gladstone is going to be one of the best stores that we have," he said.
