Councillors inspect sites for insight into budget projects

GLADSTONE Region Councillors have had a busy week inspecting a long list of locations throughout the region in the lead-up to final discussions regarding its 2014-15 Budget.

Councillors have visited about 50 sites stretching the length and breadth of the region last week in order to obtain a close-hand look at projects being considered for inclusion in the next budget.

Mayor Gail Sellers said visiting the sites in person enabled councillors to gain a greater understanding of the projects in order to prioritise the region's greatest needs.

"We have visited road construction and remedial sites, sporting facilities, infrastructure projects, areas of environmental concern and community facilities among the many items contained on the tour," she said.

"The tours have been a valuable learning experience with Council officers and local residents sharing their knowledge and being on site is the best way to fully appreciate what is involved with these projects."
