Gladstone Rebels win its first-ever rugby league game
GLADSTONE Rebels produced an inspiring 26-28 win against second placed Dawson Valley Vikings in the Gladstone and Districts Rugby League competition.
Rebels became the fourth team of the competition earlier this season after a revamp of the major rugby league with the expansion of the Rockhampton league.
The newest side have been competitive in its losses, but it eventually was paid reward for effort.
Tiam Malone scored a brace of tries while singles went to Dean Ingra, Chaysley Nandy, Shayd Fisher and Chris Kellow.
It has been a thrilling round of the local competition.
The other match between the undefeated Wallabys and Calliope Roosters was a draw.
The 26-26 result means that Wallabys still maintain top position on the ladder while all teams have shown that the new format of the competition is as open as ever and all four teams are capable of going all the way.
The Intercity Women competition resumes after the school holiday break on July 9.
Meanwhile Calliope Oval will host two matches this Saturday.
To acknowledge the celebration of NAIDOC Week, Rebels and Wallabys will go head-to-head from 5.30pm.
These two teams have a strong representation of indigenous players.
The late game from 7pm will have Calliope Roosters take on Dawson Valley Vikings.
Bar and the canteen will be operating throughout the evening with a happy hour after the late game.
Entry is $5.
