Gladstone's Melbourne Cup day fun well underway

There's a good atmosphere at the event catered by Lightbox Espresso and Wine Bar, with everyone dressing up to enjoy the day.

2.35PM: Brigitte James has had a successful Melbourne Cup Day, picking the top three place getters in the main race.
She's celebrating at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre.
2.30PM: The fashionable crowd at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre.
2.06PM: Protectionist has won the Melbourne Cup, followed by Red Cadeaux and Who Shot Thebarman.
1.45PM: Our reporter and photographer are now at the Lightbox Espresso and Wine Bar function at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre, where they've found a fashionable and merry crowd.

1.30PM: There are still plenty of people enjoying Melbourne Cup Day at Gladstone's Ferguson Park.
There is a big crowd enjoying the beautiful weather, with some enjoying their first race day, while others have been attending for years.
People have put a lot of effort into their fashion, especially their fascinators.
Gladstone is buzzing on Cup day, with our reporter on the street saying there seems to be something on at every pub.
Everyone is getting into the spirit in a big way.
Harvey Road Tavern kicked off early, with people lining up outside at 8am.

12.15PM: The final race at Gladstone's Ferguson Park ran at noon, and now the jockeys and stewards will be doing a mad dash up to Rockhampton for an afternoon race meeting.
In Gladstone, the attention now turns to lunching and socialising.

10.30AM: Melbourne Cup Day celebrations are off to an early start in Gladstone, with racing underway at Ferguson Park since 9am.
On the social side, there are plenty of places to party, with pubs, clubs and restaurants hosting Melbourne Cup functions.
