Gladstone Power teams look to improve

BASKETBALL: The final Central District Carnival for Gladstone Power's under-14 and U12 boy's and girl's teams will be used as the final tune-up ahead of the classics in Brisbane next month.

Matches start from 9am today and continue through to the final lot of fixtures at 4pm tomorrow.

Junior teams from Rockhampton, Hervey Bay and Emerald will also take part.

Gladstone Power's U14 boy's division two coach Ray Scott said he welcomes back a key player.

The Power take on Rockhampton today from 10.20am and then Hervey Bay later this afternoon.

"We're looking to get at least one back against Hervey Bay,” Scott said.

"Cooper Rhodes did not play in the last tournament in Rockhampton and he is a good rebounder as well as bringing the ball down.”

Gladstone games revolve around transition and that's an aspect which is best demonstrated in the QBL where when the Power men and women play at their best with quick ball movement from defence to offence.

That's something Scott wants from his young charges this weekend.

"I'm especially looking for getting our passes together and getting better at that,” Scott said.

He's looking for Josh Morfey to continue his progress from the CDC in Rocky.

"I'm also hoping Angus Clancy to have a strong CDC as well while Lincoln Bray is our guard who attacks really hard and Hunter Spry is our steady guard,” Scott said.

The U14 boy's division one team also are up against arch-rivals Rockhampton and both teams have had closes tussles in recent times.

Rocky's Ben Tweedy has been the thorn and his 22 points a month ago torched Gladstone after they had blown a 10-point lead.

Power coach Duane Barrenger said he has a plan in place to quell the game-breaker's influence.
