Ports corporation continues to probe sediment leak cause

GLADSTONE Ports Corporation (GPC) said investigations would continue into the cause of a sediment leak from a western basin dredge bund in Gladstone harbour, as GPC representatives met the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection to discuss the issue.

On Friday, harbour users noticed a large dark patch of dirty water flowing from weir boxes, or pipes, connected to the bund wall.

Over the weekend GPC replaced damaged pine weir boxes with a hardwood material.

One proposed solution involved installing rubber flaps on the weir boxes.

But a GPC spokesman said he was happy with the current improvements to the structure.
