BASKETBALL: Port City Power's off season recruitment drive has continued with the signing of British import Shane Walker.
Walker hails from Northampton, England and is currently playing in the British Basketball League for back-to-back league champions Leicester Riders.
The versatile 6'10” (208cm) forward is blessed with incredible athleticism, agility and length and has extensive professional experience having previously played in the United States, France, Morocco, Holland and Greece.
Newly appointed Power coach Brady Walmsley said the signing of Walker will compliment previous announcements of Taylor Young & Cirkook Riak to perfection.
"Shane's relentless competitiveness means he is someone who finds a way to impact the game on both sides of the ball, with a genuine ability to defend multiple positions,” Walmsley said.
"He's an elite distance shooter and can open the game up for himself and others on the offensive end with his range.
"Most importantly, Shane knows how to contribute to a winning culture as evident by his sustained success and winning record overseas.
"I expect his experience and leadership to have a residual effect on the rest of our players.
"I'd like to thank Shane for opting to sign with the Power and trust that the relationship is one which will prove to be very successful.”
Walker, 29, was enthusiastic about his commitment and was extremely excited to sign with the Port City Power.
"It's always been a goal of mine to visit Australia, but to have the opportunity to play the sport I love and be integrated into a supportive basketball community is awesome,” Walker said.
"The fact that coach has invested time and energy into finding out about me as a person shows that he is committed to bringing in high-character people.
"I can't wait to get to work and start moving the team in the right direction.
"It should be a fun ride.”
