Three podium finishes for netball
NETBALL players from all over the Central Queensland region converged on Bundaberg last weekend for the Feeling Good Carnival.
More than 1700 players from 147 teams took part in the event in 17 categories though six different age divisions from 13-years to open.
Gladstone submitted five teams, three of which claimed podium finishes. The under-13 division two, under-14 division three and under-15 division three Gladstone squads all finished third in their respective competitions.
The two open teams, Gladstone 1 and Gladstone 2, struggled to find results in their division three and four classes respectively.
Both teams recorded only one win during the weekend leaving Gladstone 1 on the bottom of its division three table while Gladstone 2 finished in seventh.
But competition was fierce and games were tight despite the lack of wins. Gladstone 1 lost five games by slim margins, drew 10-all against Gympie District and defeated Shailer Park 14-12.
Gladstone 2 lost two of its seven games by only a point. The low-scoring affairs saw Kingaroy defeat Gladstone 11-12 while Bundaberg 2 bested it 10-11.
Gladstone coach Tracey Davis said her players never gave up, and the carnival was the ideal learning experience for all the Gladstone sides.
“Just going away and playing games in a row really helps with the players’ development,” Davis said.
“They learn things and can take them into the next games straight away without having to wait.”
