Gladstone's namesake lies in path of US super storm
IT'S not a bad day to be in Gladstone, Queensland, but not quite so good in Gladstone, New Jersey, a small community in the United States that's in the path of the oncoming Hurricane Sandy.
Gladstone, New Jersey is in Somerset County, to the west of New York, and has a population of about 1400 people.
The hurricane already has knocked out power to 13,000 homes in the county.
The Borough of Peapack and Gladstone, two villages incorporated in 1912 into a single municipality, is nestled in the hills of northern Somerset County and has been named the second best town to live in New Jersey.
It is rural in character and has easy access to New York City by rail, bus and major highways.
Former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is a former resident.
