Gladstone Mayor on sick leave

GLADSTONE Regional Council's Mayor George Creed is off on six-weeks sick leave.

Council issued a statement late this afternoon advising Cr Creed had received advise from his doctors to seek the leave of absence from council to recover from recent treatment of illness.

Speculation surounding the Mayor's health was raised in March when the community noticed Cr Creed had regular absences from special events.

In the statement issued by council at 5.34pm, council advised Cr Gail Sellers would be Acting Mayor during Cr Creed's leave of absence.

Other Councillors will each assist where necessary.

Council's chief executive officer Graeme Kanofski confirmed that Cr Creed has sought a suspension of his council salary until his return, which wa s expected to be September 6.

The traditional Seniors' Week activities at the Mayor's property, "The Old Station" will proceed as planned on August 12.
