Gladstone mayor resigns

Gladstone Regional Council Mayor George Creed has resigned on medical grounds this morning.

Councillor Creed's resignation is effective immediately and was tendered at today's Council general meeting.

This follows a six-week absence from his duties and he was on unpaid leave for the duration.

Several months ago the public was notified of Cr Creed's medical condition, and he underwent treatment for cancer.

His condition deteriorated in recent weeks and Mr Creed, along with his family, made the decision that he would stand down as Gladstone Regional Council Mayor.
