Gladstone locals lace up for Relay for Life event

MORE than 500 locals will lace up and take to the track at Gladstone Relay For Life in an effort to create hope for a cancer free future. 

Relay For Life is an 18-hour event involving teams of up to 15 people keeping a baton moving in a relay style walk or run overnight, to raise vital funds for all Queenslanders affected by cancer.

The Cancer Council Queensland event will kick off at Chanel College Oval at 3pm on Saturday, followed by 18 hours of fun and festivities, before the event comes to a close at 9am on Sunday.

The official opening ceremony with survivors and carers walk will start at 3pm on Saturday, with a candlelight ceremony at 7pm.

Cancer Council Queensland Relay For Life coordinator Ashlee Hansen said everyone who took part created hope for cancer survivors.

"Hope lives in all of us - so this weekend, join us as we rally together to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland's vital work in cancer research, education and patient support programs."
