Gladstone local in drug lab bust
OPERATION Hotel Dragon has resulted in the arrest of a Gladstone man for the major production of dangerous drugs.
The operation involving police from the State Crime Operations Command, South Eastern and Central Regions, focussed on the trafficking of methylamphetamine, MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine, cannabis and anabolic steroids.
The operation focussed on a network of drug traffickers operating out of the Gold Coast and Logan areas with links to Gladstone.
Members of the State Drug Investigation Unit in Gladstone executed and conducted raids on Wednesday.
Eight people were charged with 33 offences with one of those people from Gladstone.
The raids uncovered a clandestine illicit drug laboratory and a pill press used in the production of ecstasy in Gladstone.
About 12 kilograms of powder and several hundred pills believed to be ecstasy were also located at the Gladstone address.
Detectives were still processing this address yesterday.
The operation has been running for a year and has seized drugs in excess of a million dollars.
Detective Superintendent John Pointing of the State Drug Investigation Unit said the unit was committed to the disruption of drug networks, and this operation closure is one facet of the work currently being undertaken.
“This has been a significant operation. It has been a targeted operation focussing on the production, supply and distribution of dangerous drugs by organised syndicates operating out of the Gold Coast and Gladstone. We are extremely pleased with the results which are the culmination of 12 months of extensive investigations,” he said.
Further arrests are expected in the coming weeks.
