Gladstone in front of 8-ball
GLADSTONE WILL have five representative teams in next months CQ versus Country 8-Ball Tournament to be held at the Yaralla Sports Club.
Marcus Hansen and Darryn Kemp will lead the A grade side while Tim Work and Anthony Harding will captain the B grade team.
Cass Ditchfield will don the Gladstone colours for the women's team and is the sole debutant to play high-level 8-ball.
I'm expecting it to be a tough competition," Ditchfield said.
Her partner Kemp has been the mainstay toward her development and improvement.
"Darryn has encouraged me to take it more seriously," Ditchfield added.
Nerves have subsided in her during regular competitions as she became more competent, but it's not to say they will return on day one of the three-day CQ v Country event from June 24.
"I think everyone's beatable and that's how I'm going to look at it," Ditchfield said of the tournament that will have state and even national players.
"The way I look at it is that I'm playing against the table and the balls."
As far as tactics are concerned, it's basically a horses for courses approach.
"Typically I'm a potter, but if I have to play defensively, then I will not shy away from putting balls over the pockets," Ditchfield explained.
