Gladstone gymnasts shine

SEVERAL of Gladstone's best young gymnasts competed at the 2016 Gymnastics Queensland Senior Regional Championships of Central Queensland.

Rosella Goh completed the championships to finish on top in the floor category.

Nikita Harris finished in overall third position after being adjudged as vault champion, third in bars and fifth in the floor.

Chloe Martin finished second in the beam and was in fourth place while Alyssa Rabnott was second on the floor.

Coach Sarah Warburton was pleased with her girls' efforts.

"They produced successful vaults of a good standard without many errors," Warburton said.

"They moved on to bars and beam, two apparatus of which all gymnasts were competing new skills for the first time.

"Bars and beam proved a little challenging for the group with the girls incurring unfortunate penalties.

"That said individuals did produce routines of medal winning standard."

Warburton expects the girls to improve further ahead of another competition in Brisbane in two weeks.

"The girls have accepted the challenges faced today and know what they must work on back in the gym for state championships in two weeks," she said.

"They also must walk away knowing they overcame personal psychological challenges and that I am proud of the placings they achieved."
