Gladstone Golf Club to stand alone after special meeting
GOLF: The association between the Gladstone Golf Club and Golf Central Queensland is soon to be no longer.
In a special meeting held yesterday in which 40 members had attended, they had voted on resolution to resign from GCC.
GCC president Graham Fenton, who has been a member for 51 years, was one of those who did not want the motion to go ahead.
"Yes I am disappointed and why change something to a club that has been around for 90 years,” Fenton said.
"I have been working on this for the past 15 months and of course more members voted for the change to happen.
"The reasons for it are pretty technical and there will be more negotiations between the Yaralla and Gladstone Golf Clubs.”
GCC will keep its name until such time that the paperwork between the clubs and Golf Queensland and GCC will be processed.
Fenton remained unsure when that will happen and hence the name change to occur.
"It could take a few months, but I think by the end of January and it's up to the new club to decide its name,” Fenton said.
He added players qualifying for representative duties will not be affected.
"The general public won't know any different, but it will be an independent golfing association and its association with Yaralla will still be in place.
The course has gone through a number of alterations during late 2010.
These included improvements to fairways, greens, tees and bunkers and the addition of a water feature on the ninth hole.
