Gladstone Gladiators swim club has massive season ahead
SWIMMING: On the back of the Western Waves' athletes outstanding efforts at the Beef City Carnival, a number from the Gladstone Gladiators fared just as well.
In the first meet of the Central Queensland swimming season, Gladiators had sent 27 swimmers.
The Age Champions went to Coby Richardson and Reagan Copsey in the 13-years and 8-years categories respectively.
Gladiators head coach Tom Fronek said he was pleasantly surprised with the results.
"There were some great surprises from our young team and a number of swimmers were stepping up to collect medals or improve their ranking,” Fronek said.
"The season is now continuing with long-course racing and we are confident that our team is now ready to achieve their future goals.”
Jarrod Lee and Camille Bebendorf were runner-up age champions in their respective Male 16-year and Female 10-years classes.
Fronek said his swimmers will benefit from the first meet of the season.
"Our older squads attended to practice their racing skills in a meet environment and our younger squads were there to race hard for times,” he said.
"All of our swimmers focused closely on their task and achieved what they came to do.”
Meanwhile Gladiators have their second Club League Meet today from 5.30- 8pm and events include 1500m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle, 100m Fly, 50m Backstroke, 25m Backstroke and 25m Freestyle.
