Gladstone foursome shares CQ U19 glory

THEY had been runners-up before, but the Capricornia cricket team has finally taken the win at the Queensland Secondary Schools U19 state championships in Ipswich.

Leading the team - and Gladstone schoolboys Ricky Sawyer, Waqar Yunus, Anthony Cobb and Harry Fordyce - to victory was coach Aaron Harmsworth.

Harry's father, Pat Fordyce, said the boys had done really well in all three games, and they defeated every team.

"The boys versed Wide Bay, Met West and Peninsula," he said.

"The second game, in particular, was brilliant because it was against a metropolitan team and they always think they're better than us cowboys."

In game one Capricornia had 216 runs to nine wickets, game two 182 runs to nine wickets and game three 210. The game was also a milestone for the boys as it was their last senior game at school.
