Gladstone athletics club granted $400,000 for new home

SOON-to-be-homeless Gladstone Little Athletics Club will be granted $400,000 to move, Labor candidate Chris Trevor announced on Wednesday.

Their previous home at the Gladstone TAFE grounds was to be lost when the New Energy Training Centre was constructed on the land.

As a result, Mr Trevor said he had lobbied the Federal Government for funding to relocate the club, as he said the last thing he wanted to see was local junior athletes without a place to train.

The $400,000 will be allocated to Gladstone Regional Council, who now had to embark on the process of identifying a feasible venue for the club.

A number of potential sites had been scouted, said Mr Trevor.

"There are many Gladstone venues that might be suitable including Blain Park, Clinton Park, CQ University Campus, the racecourse or showgrounds," he said.

"There may well be more sites to consider and I am confident with this funding commitment the council can secure a suitable site."
