Gladstone airport safety concerns resolved after report

CONCERNS over runway safety at Gladstone airport have been mostly resolved, according to Gladstone Airport Corporation chief executive Phillip Cash.

An investigation by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau found in May this year several aircraft took off at night while the runway lights were switched off.

The report says the lights are pilot controlled, and both SkyWest and QantasLink have put measures in place to prevent future incidents.

Mr Cash told the ABC he had been waiting for the report to see if any further action was needed.

"The ATSB did a very thorough investigation and they came up with some pretty practical outcomes and I think that's great."

He says he will work with SkyWest and QantasLink to ensure such incidents don't happen again.
