Gladstone Airport flight numbers and profit dive

PASSENGER movements through Gladstone Airport are expected to drop by 30.2% this financial year.

The Gladstone Airport Corporation's 2016 statement of corporate intent, which was released at the council's budget meeting on Monday morning, shows that passenger numbers from the end of the 2014 financial year to the end of the 2015 year dropped by 32,143 - from 532,243 to 500,100.

The projection is that by the end of the 2016 financial year, passenger volumes will have dropped to 349,000.

Along with the drop in passengers, the airport's profit levels have also dived, from a heady $5.99 million before tax at the end of 2014 to an expected $2.186 million at the end of the 2016 financial year.

The corporation's profit dived by almost 50% to the end of the 2015 financial year, to $3.10 million.

Flight numbers have also reduced over the past year, and are expected to drop further in the coming year.

A total of 11,310 aircraft movements were recorded in the 2014 year, against 10,527 in 2015 and they expect to drop to 9000 in the coming year.
