Victorian couple settles in and plans to stay

WELCOME WEDNESDAY: They came from Victoria and now Christi Melbourne and her boyfriend Ryan Elliott say they have no intention of leaving.

Miss Melbourne, 20, and Mr Elliott, 26, were living in Latrobe Valley before an opportunity in Gladstone brought them to the Sunshine State.

"My partner got a job on the island like most people here," she said.

"I got a job shortly after at Happy High Herbs and we bought a house in Yarwun.

"So we'll probably be here forever."

Miss Melbourne now works at The Reef hotel and said she loved it.

Her partner has also been lucky enough to find work in town.

After never setting foot on a plane, Miss Melbourne said the change of scenery was exciting and nerve wracking.

"I'd never heard of Gladstone until we got here," she said.

"I love it up here now mainly because of the weather, and would probably only go back to Victoria for a holiday."

Adding to the family of two is the couple's three dogs and cat.

Miss Melbourne said when the pair wasn't working their hobbies included anything outdoors.

"Ryan loves it here though, he fishes almost every day. We also go camping, and when we're not camping I'm shopping."
