Hoping Dads will get good waves despite swell drought

COME on Huey, how about something for Father's Day?

We are languishing in the longest swell drought for a while; as is most of the east coast of Australia.

There is hope on the horizon for Tuesday and Wednesday next week, but wouldn't it be nice to get a few little waves tomorrow for all the dads out there?

Spring is notoriously a bad time for waves in this part of the world, with the usual mix of only small wind swell and breezes out of the north.

Hurley Pro

THE professional world tour heads to California for the Hurley Pro (Sept 15-21) at Lowers (Trestles), with defending champion Kelly Slater holding a narrow ratings lead over Mick Fanning in the title race.

Surfers up for awards

IN another indication that surfing has gone mainstream are the nominations for Australian of the Year Awards.

World champion Joel Parkinson has been nominated for Father of the Year, Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons for Sportswoman of the Year and world champ Steph Gilmore for Service to the Sport.
