Girls rule on golf course

THREE Tannum Sands girls have beaten competitors from all over Queensland to take out the Junior Jug tournament in Mossman.

Seven districts were represented in the four-day tournament.

Women's Golf Central Queensland was represented by Lily McKelvie, Taylor McManus and Hannah Edmonstone.

McManus and Edmonstone are members of the Calliope Golf Club and McKelvie is a member of the Boyne Island Tannum Sands Club.

McKelvie was awarded player of the tournament after she won five of her six matches and squared one.

The girls' first round was against Wide Bay Burnett with McManus (13) losing to Kate Law (11) on the 18th hole, while McKelvie defeated Hollie Sinclair, 6-4.

Round Two was against Downs and South West with Edmonstone (17) playing Zoe Field (6) and squared on the 18th. McKelvie played Keely Buckley and won 3-1.

In Round three CQ went up against Brisbane and District with McManus (13) playing Katie Sparks (5) and McManus won on the last. In round four the CQ team defeated the Gold Coast team, and went one up against Far NQ round five.

In Round six McManus played Bianca Smith from North Queensland winning 3-1, while McKelvie squared her match against Fiona Bell.

Central Queensland won the tournament on 20.5 points.
