IT WAS a first-up taste of victory for Jessica Wickham in her return to rugby league for the Wallaby's.

Playing in a trial match against Calliope, Wickham's women defeated it 16-8 on Saturday.

The six trial matches were a selection process for a Raidettes representative side that will play against Rockhampton in a curtain raiser to the CQ Capras on April 2.

But for the helmet-wearing Wickham, the adrenalin kicked win as soon as she got the ball.

"It was my first-ever game and have not played since I was in primary school," Wickham said during a spell on the bench.

"I enjoyed it and I thrive for the ball."

That was well recognised because she was selected in the Raidettes team.

The trial match had an international feel to it with Jillaroo players Kody House and Wallaby's Chelsea Baker opposed to each other.

"Chelsea Baker has been awesome for us," Wickham said just before heading out to the field of battle.

Wallaby's team manager Sarah Stewart said Wallaby's form has been encouraging against Calliope at the Marley Brown trial.

"We only just started having team runs only four weeks ago and we've surprisingly played well," Stewart said.

Saturday's format included 25-minute games and the other club involved was Tannum Seagals.

House and Baker and multi-talented Prue Maeyke will also headline a talented Raidettes team that will take on the best of Rockhampton for the April 2 blockbuster.
