Ghost a frequent visitor to the Majestic Theatre

ONE man who firmly believes The Majestic Theatre is home to ghosts is the building's former owner, Ron West.

He is adamant his late wife, Mandy, enjoys making her presence felt.

Mrs West died in 2002.

Her husband often speaks of feeling her "presence" and on one occasion believes she poked a talkative theatregoer in the shoulder to make her be quiet.

But she is not the only spirit Mr West believes is hanging about.

His favourite story involved a personal experience from the 1970s.

"I was working on the stage, preparing a set for a forthcoming stage production," Mr West told the Daily in 2004.

"It was around midnight, surprise, when I heard footsteps coming along the passage which runs alongside the organ and lighting board to the stage."

But when he went to have a look, there was no one there.

Then he had a chilling realisation - the sound he had heard was leather boots on a wooden floor, but the passageway was carpeted.

From that time on, he said the ghost was a frequent visitor to the theatre.

"It was always a very friendly atmosphere that accompanied its visits," he said. "It was not at all scary."
