Stolen bank cards used hundred of times

A KOORI Court will decide the fate of Geelong woman Charmaine Elston as she faces deception charges relating to the theft of more than $50,000.

Ms Elston faced the Geelong Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, appearing via video link, with prosecutors and Ms Elston's defence consolidating more than 400 charges against her to four outside court.

Police prosecutor Kerrie Moroney told the court it was alleged Ms Elston used a stolen Commonwealth Bank card 46 times between September 9, 2016, and December 14, 2016, to make purchases worth $32,470.

Leading Senior Constable Moroney said it was alleged Ms Elston also used a stolen bank card 240 times in a five-day period in late 2016 to make purchases worth $16,572.

It was also alleged she used the stolen Commonwealth bank card to pay for taxi fares worth $1774.91.

The final charge Ms Elston is facing relates to attempting to obtain property by deception in Corio and the surrounds 125 times between September 9, 2016, and December 14, 2016.

Ms Elston will face a Koori Court on March 22 which operates as a division of the Magistrates’ Court and sentences indigenous defendants in front of Koori elders and a magistrate.
