Burnett suspends campaign to fight for water dividends
Gladstone Mayoral candidate Matt Burnett will suspend his campaign on Thursday to travel to Brisbane to argue for a fair share of Gladstone Area Water Board dividends from the Palaszczuk Government.
"I have been arguing for my community's fair share of these dividends for many years and have raised it with the Premier and her senior Ministers at every opportunity including at the Community Cabinet in Gladstone and again in writing in February."
"I am meeting with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and our local Member Glenn Butcher at Parliament House tomorrow to again raise this important issue," Cr Burnett said.
"The former LNP Government robbed us of these dividends in 2013. I want to get our fair share and I am travelling to Brisbane to get it."
"Glenn knows how important this is and he made sure the Cabinet got the message when they met here in January."
"Our community was given a commitment many years ago with the formation of the Gladstone Area Water Board that one day we would see benefits through dividends.
Cr Burnett said the timing of a decision was critical as the Government started to prepare its 2016-17 Budget, which will be delivered on 14 June.
"Ideally, we should be securing a fair share of the dividends for 2016-17 now, so that we have the funding certainty for our own budget process," Cr Burnett said.
