Confused rail crossing gates hold up traffic

POLICE were called to the Awoonga Dam Road rail crossing when the gates malfunctioned on Wednesday, holding up traffic.

At 9.15am police were needed because one gate was down while the other gate was up, causing traffic congestion and build up.

Police performed manual traffic control until rail crews came to repair the gates.

Once it was confirmed that no trains would be passing through the crossing, police lifted the gates to allow the traffic to flow through.

The rail crews fixed the gates while the police were on site. The gates are now in working order.
