Softball hits all bases for young energetic Drake
AFTER a solid pitching effort for his beloved under-13 Angels team, Kyle Drake was warming up to face the dangerous Dodger pitchers.
Drake's team faced a 5-0 deficit midway through the first innings, but he cleverly put a dead bat to a ball and ran to first base.
He describes his involvement in the sport, and as a relative newcomer, as "magnificent".
"It's my second season of softball and it's a really nice sport and I have been learning a lot," Drake, 10, said.
He was very complimentary of his teammates while coach Kellie Pengelly encouraged her young troops.
"We are going good and run hard and swing those bats hard," Pengelly said in between innings.
Drake is a player who senses and relishes every aspect of softball and his enthusiasm was evident.
"I enjoy all the stuff from batting, pitching and catching," he said.
He was also bullish about his team and teammates.
"I think we have an awesome team and a lot of talented players.
"I can name all of them," Drake said.
Meanwhile the earlier under-13 match was a thriller in which Crocs edged out Dodgers 9-8 while rain washed out the senior matches.
