CRICKET: While Cheteshwar Pujara led India to a historic 2-1 Test series win in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Gladstone competition returned to start 2019.

The Glen Gold and Yaralla Red did battle at Sun Valley in round four of the Gladstone Cricket Incorporated Seniors competition.

And it was just as one-sided as in the "big league”.

The Glen Gold romped to a 224-run win, skittling Yaralla Red for just 73.

Yaralla captain Tony Wroe said there was a highlight from his team.

"We have a new bloke, Brayden Stibbe, and he took one of the best one-handed catches I have seen,” Wroe said.

"He took a blinder diving to his right to get Alex Jeynes out and he also produced a good run-out in just his second game for us.

"We're a very young team and have parents playing alongside their sons.”

Josh Lait scored 56 runs for The Glen Gold and teammate Zac Smith made 46.

Doug Johnson, Gavin Hoare and Dylan Forse were the only batsmen to get double figures for Yaralla.

In the other match, BITS Gold beat Calliope by four wickets.

Michael Gough made a superb and unbeaten 85, and BITS teammate Nico Smuts made 40 and Keren Moodley scored 36 as BITS chased down Calliope's 5-189.

Bruce Gibbs top-scored for Calliope with 87 not out and Russell Williams made 32.

Meanwhile the Frenchville Sports Club Capricorn Challenge resumes on Saturday with BITS to host The Glen at noon.

Frenchville and Gracemere lead the pack, but BITS and The Glen are certainly in the running for third spot on the ladder and a finals berth.
