TENNIS: More than 40 players competed in the 2018 Gladstone Closed Tennis Championships at the weekend.
Gladstone's crop of talented youngsters used the event as perfect preparation ahead of the Junior Development Series finals to be staged at the Gladstone Tennis and Squash Centre mid next month.
Club manager and head coach Rob McBean said two of the prospects put on a display in what was effectively a final of the round-robin format.
"Dylan Price won a close one in the junior boys against Nick Crane," he said.
"It was a close game."
In the men's top-grade division, Brendan Warwick claimed yet another title.
"It was Brendan's 10th Open Division singles title and he knocked off Daniel Cooke 9-3," McBean said.
"The ladies was won by Maria Cantoni who went through undefeated and she beat Jessie Ogden."
McBean said the numbers were excellent throughout the weekend.
"It was very successful and popular and the weather was perfect," he said.
