RUGBY UNION: It's all about getting better.
And Gladstone Rugby Union Football Club Goats men and women's coach George Kupu got just that from his chargers at the Rocky Sports Club CQ Sevens tournament.
The Goats' men's team finished third and took home the 'Bowl' while the Grufettes showed improvement each game. "Obviously we didn't win any games, but the girls did great," Kupu said.
"We have a lot of new female players from a league and soccer background and it was a very interesting experience for them."
The most experienced was Courtney Bridges and Kupu said she was the stand-out performer. He was equally as excited with Gladstone Goats' men's side.
"Everyone had put in and I'm very excited for the future of this program," he said.
As usual, David West starred with numerous tries while Eli Noovao captained the team.
DKU won the men's while Highlanders 1 took out the women's division. Rockhampton Brothers club president Trevor Robertson said all boxes were ticked.
"Everyone's had a good time. There were some great games played throughout the day. We had some really competitive finals and we had a good number of people along so it ticked all the boxes, I think," he told The Morning Bulletin.
"We were aiming for eight men and four women's teams so the fact that we got 12 and five in the first year is great.
"The main thing for us now is making sure we can back it up next year and make it that little bit better again."
