SURF LIFESAVING: All 55 Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club nippers agreed that fun and participation was the focus at the surf sport carnival at Yeppoon Beach.

One under-9 nipper who enjoyed immensely was Mikaela Winterberg.

"My favourite was the board race," she said. "I tried really hard to do my best and I was happy that I didn't fall off. I did nippers last year for fun and this year I am racing at carnivals for the first time and it is so much fun.

"We live in Biloela and mum drives me to Tannum every Sunday for nippers, so I don't get much time in the ocean."

Junior activities chairman Gary Churchward agrees that fun was the winner.

"We have 55 happy nippers, which was the aim," he said. "A big shout-out to Yeppoon Surf Life Saving Club for putting on a well-run carnival and it's nice and quick just how we like it on these really hot days.

"Thanks also to the volunteers from all the clubs who provided water safety and officials, carnivals like these can't run without them." The next event is on Sunday, December 2 at the Tannum Sands beach.
