Paul Gallen fight rival reveals talks in progress

BOXING: Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen is expected to make his professional boxing debut less than four weeks before the Sharks kick off their 2014 NRL campaign.

Confirmation is expected as early as today that Gallen will fight 19-year-old Queensland heavyweight Herman "The Herminator" Ene-Purcell on the undercard of the Daniel Geale versus Garth Wood contest in Sydney on February 19.

Gallen had elbow surgery just last month after helping Australia win the Rugby League World Cup in England.

The 108kg prop has yet to confirm details of the bout, and his plan to turn professional, but Ene-Purcell wrote on social media that the respective managers were in discussions.

"There's talk between his and my manager about hopefully a match up between me and Mr Gallen!" he posted.

"All my years of playing footy I've idolised the NSW captain and I'm keen to step in the ring with him."

Ene-Purcell has had two professional fights for a win and a draw, while Gallen has had two charity fights in New Zealand against All Blacks Hika Elliott and Liam Messam, winning both on points.
