Gail Sellers to nominate for Mayor
Gladstone Regional Council Acting Mayor Councillor Gail Sellers today announced she will be nominating for Mayor following the resignation of George Creed.
Cr Sellers has been Acting Mayor since Mr Creed took leave of absence in July this year.
“It has been an honour to work with George over many years in Local Government and more recently as his Deputy since the amalgamation of Gladstone City, Calliope and Miriam Vale Shires,” Cr Sellers said.
“I know my fellow Councillors appreciate George’s inclusive leadership style and recognize that his personal integrity has been an inspiration to all of us.
Cr Sellers topped the Councillor poll at the 2008 General Election with 20,620 votes.
At the post election meeting Cr Sellers was elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor of the first Gladstone Regional Council.
Cr Sellers was first elected to Local Government in 1988 and served as Deputy Mayor of the former Gladstone City Council for 11 years.
Born and raised in the Gladstone Region Cr Sellers said she wouldn’t live anywhere else.
"The Gladstone Region is my home, I have enjoyed representing the community as a local Councillor and I look forward to continuing the great work this Council has already started,” Cr Sellers said.
“I have discussed my nomination with my family and I have their full support, something which is very important in local government.
“We have a great team of Councillors at the Gladstone Regional Council and we are surrounded by a hardworking and dedicated workforce,” she said.
If unopposed Cr Sellers would be elected to the office of Mayor without the need for residents to go back to the polls.
Council would then call expression of interest from the community fill the position made vacant by Cr Sellers.
