Principal adjusts to new life after living in rural town
FROM living in a town that just has a school and a pub, Gladstone is a welcome change for Kurt Goodwin.
The new Gladstone South State School principal moved from Anakie, west of Emerald, five weeks ago, bringing his wife and two daughters with him.
Mr Goodwin took over the role at the beginning of term two and loves the community spirit at Gladstone South.
"It's a lovely school," he said. "The kids are really friendly and I rate it quite highly."
Mr Goodwin worked at the Anakie school for more than two years. He has been travelling around the country for the past 10 years, living in rural areas.
He said Gladstone was a welcoming community and signing his children up for sport is next on the agenda
"It's been very different to where we came from. We have been exploring and finding shops and parks for the kids. We would like to get the girls into athletics and netball."
Mr Goodwin enjoys his work and likes playing touch football and squash.
